The Office of the Ombudsman in Malta is actively involved in international networks dedicated to the promotion and protection of fundamental rights. Through these affiliations, the Office contributes to the exchange of best practices, fosters cooperation, and strengthens its commitment to good governance and human rights.

Association of Mediterranean Ombudsmen (AOM)

The Parliamentary Ombudsman of Malta serves as the Secretary and Treasurer of the Association of Ombudsmen of the Mediterranean (AOM). This organisation unites over 30 institutions committed to safeguarding fundamental rights in the Mediterranean region. AOM promotes collaboration and the sharing of experiences among member institutions to strengthen the protection of citizens' rights.

International Ombudsman Institute (IOI)

The Ombudsman of Malta is also a Director on both the European Regional Board and the World Board of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI). The IOI brings together Ombudsmen from around the globe to foster international cooperation and advance the work of Ombudsmen in upholding democratic principles. The Ombudsman actively participates in meetings and discussions, both online and in person.

European Network of Ombudsmen

The Office maintains strong ties with the EU Ombudsman and is an active member of the European Network of Ombudsmen, ensuring collaboration on matters of European governance and citizens' rights.

European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI)

The Ombudsman of Malta holds Associate Status with the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI). Through this affiliation, the Office contributes to discussions on the protection and promotion of human rights in line with European and international standards.

Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA)

The Office enjoys a close working relationship with the Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) of the European Union, collaborating on issues of mutual concern, particularly in the protection of human rights across the EU.
